FAASIK IN COLLABORATION WITH SAFARICOM FOUNDATION DONATES FOOD TO THE VULNERABLE FAMILIES AFFECTED BY COVID-19 PANDEMIC

The COVID -19 pandemic has been a game changer of the global economies as it has affected adversely the established businesses of every kind and lifestyle of people from all walks of life. Even though the Kenyan government has imposed numerous restrictions in order to contain the spread of the virus, the positive COVID-19 cases continues to be reported. The closure of schools and imposed lockdown had negative effects on vulnerable groups such as women and girls living with HIV. Many households were left without or with minimal source of income which cannot cater for the family needs such as food and house rent.

FAASIK DISTRIBUTES IN-KIND DONATIONS TO THE NEEDY FAMILIES

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Safaricom foundation donated to FAASIK 100 packaged bags with items such as flour, rice, sugar, cooking oil, salt, cereals and sanitary towels. The donations were distributed to the 100 vulnerable families of the People Living with HIV including widowed women and orphaned children. Majority of them were from Eastleigh, Huruma, Mathare and Manjengo slums in Nairobi County. The occasion took place at Shauri-Moyo dispensary since it was more convenience in compliance with the health safety containment measures.

The Executive Director of the FAASIK together with the community members expressed their appreciation to the Safaricom Foundation. “We are sincerely grateful to the Safaricom Foundation for the generous donations of food stuffs; when most of the families are jobless and struggling,” said Rose Victoria.
“May Allah guide and grant blessings to the Safaricom Foundation always. Alhamdulillah. Inshallah!” said one of the recipient.
